What does it mean to "be in therapy"?

According to the National Institutes of Health, psychotherapy aims to help individuals identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

Individuals who are “In therapy” set formal or informal goals and learn ways to manage their lives in more rewarding and satisfying ways.

What type of therapy do you practice?

I provide therapy that is grounded in well studied concepts of human learning, development, personality, and behavior change. My orientation is a mix of supportive, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.   Sessions are typically once a week online, with the option for an  occasional in-person meeting.

Initial Intake Interview

At our first meeting I will be interested in hearing your current concerns and a history that includes where you are from and what you hope to gain from our meetings. Prior to the intake I will send you forms and questionnaires to gather initial information that will provide focus for our first meeting and shortcut gathering basic demographic information like your date of birth and home address.
